Building Department

It is the responsibility of this Department to ensure public safety, health and welfare as they are affected by building construction. Compliance to State Building Codes is enforced enforced to secure safety to life and property. The Department is staffed by Elliot Wilson, Jr., Building Official, Ellen Blaho, Office Administrator, One part-time Building Inspector, one part-time Housing Code Officer and two part-time Office Clerks.
The Building Department is responsible for plan review, issuing permits, inspections and final Certificate of Occupancy for all phases of building construction. Other responsibilities are for demolition of buildings and housing code inspections.

The department issued 2,341 permits and 281 Certificate of Occupancy for the year 2002.

Under current construction is a 150,000 sq. ft. office warehouse building, many commercial renovations, a new restaurant, a mini shopping center and numerous condo and single family units.
