Hazardous Waste Information
Residents of Shelton may participate in the Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off Day for free.

The following items should be saved for disposal at Shelton’s annual HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAY:
Brake Fluid, Fungicides, Roofing Tar
Bug repellent, Furniture Polish, Rug & Upholstery
Car Wax, Gasoline, Chemical sprays & Glue solvent based,
Spot Remover, Fertilizers, Insecticides, Stains & Varnishes
Kerosene, Swimming Pool Chemicals, Drain & Toilet Cleaners,
Lighter Fluid, Driveway Sealer, Moth Balls, Transmission Fluid
Engine Degreaser, Oil Based Paint, Wood Preservatives
Fiberglass Resins, Oven Cleaner, Weed Killers
Flea Control Products, Paint Strippers/Thinners, Chemistry Sets
Floor & Metal Polish, Photo Chemicals, Fluorescent Light Bulbs, Poisons
Important: To properly dispose of Latex Paint (which is not a hazard), simply open the top and allow the paint to dry. Put the can into the garbage.
HOW TO SAFELY TRANSPORT THESE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS:
Leave materials in original containers.
Tighten Caps and lids.
Sort and pack separately: oil paint, pesticides, and household cleaners.
Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspaper.
NEVER MIX CHEMICALS.
Pack your car and drive directly to the site.
Never SMOKE while handling hazardous material.
DO NOT PLACE WASTE IN A GARBAGE BAG.
DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO TOUCH HAZARDOUS MATERIAL.
